As the 2010 Soccer World Cup Club draws to a close with the final scheduled to be played on Sunday rugby gets back into full swing this week end with all eyes focused on the House of Paint Premier Division with log leaders and holders of the coveted Moor Cup Jonsson College Rovers resuming their campaign to retain the title against Thanda RZA Zululand Rhinos on their home grounds on Reebok Park (KP 3).

It will be interesting to see what effect that the break has had on the clubs-one thing is for certain however no matter how fit the Rovers side is they will be playing in honor of one of their great icons George Dunbar who passed away recently. Dunbar who played his club rugby with the likes of Peter Tayler, Roy Dryburgh and Nic Labuschagne will long be remembered not just by his club but indeed the older members of Durban Collegians, Old Boys and Glenwood Old Boys for his quite unassuming manner. A giant amongst men he was a great club man and he is sure to be given the finest send off possible from his beloved club. His memorial service will take place at the Greyville Presbyterian Church, 158 Windermere Road at 10 pm tomorrow (Thursday).

In the other games Acer Durban Collegians travel across the Umgeni to play Envirosan Old Boys at the Riverside Sports complex in Durban North what should be the pick of the games. Collegians who have already secured four U/20 trophies will be looking to fill their cabinet with a few more pieces of silverware this year after what can be best described as that of one of their most successful seasons for in the last seven years or so thus far.

ChemSpec Jaguars will be entertaining Airtron Harlequins in Sydenham and Foton Maritzburg Varsity getting ready for their Centenary year in 2011 will be hosting Goss and Balfe Crusaders at Washington Road in the Capital in the remaining two matches with all the games kicking off at 3.30pm.

There are a few tables left for the Varsity Old Boys dinner with Craig Jamison as guest speaker at the Golden Horse Casino on 24 July and accommodation can be booked at the hotel if necessary. For further details contact 033-3958000 and quote Varsity Rugby while the Champions Breakfast scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed till further notice.

The Glenwood High School Centenary gala banquet at the ICC with Springbok skipper John Smit as the guest speaker on 13 August looks set to be a cracker. It will be interesting to know just how times our Sharks captain actually played and beat the ‘Green Machine’-if at all. It’s an occasion not to be missed especially with Aaron McIlroy adding some spice to the evening’s entertainment so contact Danielle Crook at 082-7807158 or email Danielle@sarugbylegends.com

In the Second Division South Section games Teichmann Bell Ballito Dolphins will be hosting Gestetner Maritzburg Varsity and will be celebrating the opening of their new facility at Ashton College. Besides the game, Sharkie will be there together with the SA Rugby Legends Association helping with a coaching clinic. The main feature of course the game between the Dolphins and Collegians scheduled for a 4pm kickoff.

The Starlight Aviation Under 19 Cup lift off was scheduled for this week end as well but take off has been postponed for 21 July to give clubs a little more time to regroup after the break, which has left them in a little bit of disarray. Starlight a multi-faceted aviation company, are to be congratulated for backing the junior game the way they have-who knows we could see some of juniors taking flying lessons at the end of it all.
