Just when the Under 19 club rugby players thought it was time to relax, a new competition is scheduled to be launched on 13 July just after the 2010 Soccer World Cup has run its course and the winning country has winged their way home with one of world sports most coveted trophies.

Starlight Aviation announced that they are proud to be sponsoring the newly-created The Starlight Aviation Under 19 Trophy competition that will keep club players active during the National Junior competitions in the second half of the season. The Soccer World Cup had understandably disrupted the normal running of local club competitions and now that the all the KZNRU Club Rugby competitions have been concluded with Acer Durban Collegians having won most of the silverware, this new competition will help keep the provincial fringe players in condition should they be called on to do duty.

There are five clubs participating: Collegians, Envirosan Old Boys, Jonsson College Rovers, Maritzburg and Airtron Harlequins with the opening round scheduled to be played at the Durban Collegians home grounds (KP10) on 14 July. Maritzburg will play Harlequins in the early game at 6.30pm and hosts Collegians will meet Old Boys with Rovers having a bye. Each club will have their turn to host the competition with the final being played on 4 September the day the House of Paint Premier Division and First Division clubs meet to play the Murray Cup, Peter Taylor and Junior Murray Cup knockout finals respectively.

So things seem to be flying high for club rugby in the province and who knows; when the 2011 season returns to normal we could well see a new KZNRU U/20 club sponsor on board, which would be so good for the game at this level.

The Lammergeyer from Northern Natal are still very much in control of the Ebbo Bastard and Philip Nel Senior and Junior Regional Trophy competitions leading the way on both the log tables.
