For the record, Dave Bense passed away on New Year’s Eve in Pennington on the South Coast.

He was educated at Maritzburg College & played for Durban Collegians at centre & flyhalf from the early fifties to the mid-sixties, and had a few games for Natal in the 1950’s. He was also one of those few talented guys who played for Natal at both rugby and cricket (as a leg-spin bowler).

He was a brother-in-law to former Natal prop Peter Ripley-Evans.
