Cape Town 10s
The Natal University Maritzburg Alumni (Numzans) are sending two teams to the inaugural Cape Town Tens Rugby Tournament, which is being hosted by the oldest rugby club in the country - the Hamilton Sea Point Rugby Football Club this weekend.
The two teams that have been entered into the tournament are playing in the over 35’s Castle Lager Beer Division and the seniors in the Vida Vets Division. The teams chosen include a host of past players in their line-ups that have represented Maritzburg Varsity, Natal, other provinces and overseas clubs with distinction, whilst there is also a sprinkling of international players as well. Doc Louw will also be in Cape Town with the teams to lend support to his Alma Mater.
The two teams have been sponsored by RMB/Morgan Stanley and Playhugelottos.com respectively and will be joined in Cape Town by another KZN side, the Westville Mighty Turks. The Elan SA Legends have also entered two teams.
The tournament does have a serious side to it as well with the Premier Division competition set to offer some exciting contests between the likes of the Western Province Vodacom side The Adidas/Sports Illustrated Legends, which includes All Black flyhalf Dan Carter in their line up and a side Scatterlings of Africa that is reportedly going to be the surprise package of the tournament.
The tournament organises include Springboks Robbie Fleck and Bobby Skinstad together with former Maritzburg Varsity hooker Ron Rutland and Howard Kahn and is set to become an annual event.
The Senior Numzans side is Frank Goedeke, Tom Jankovich, Dom Moerdyk, Ron Rutland, Hilton Nagel, Dave Spence, Andy Dahl, Paul Pretorious, Pete Badham, Robin Knott, Richie Bates, Mark Schultz, Brendan Kemp, Udo Goedeke, Guy Armstrong, Hubert Goedeke and Ali Urquhart.
