House of Paint College Rovers retained the Moor Cup after beating Envirosan Old Boys 18-12 in a hard fought Premier Division match at 'Oldies' Riverside Tungay Park home grounds in Durban North last Saturday after leading 15-0 at the break.

Both sides went into the game knowing full well that they had to win the contest to take home the silverware and as it turned out Rovers came out on full throttle and looked in charge from the first whistle. In the end, however, it turned out to be a match of two halves with Old Boys having the better of the second session although Rovers had done enough in the beginning to secure the crucial victory and the ultimate prize - the 134 year priceless piece of silverware the Moor Cup and the House of Paint Premier Division league.

Prop Sean Brannigan and lock Michael Rhodes scored the tries for the newly crowned 2009 champions with centre Jerome Pretorius kicking the balance. Old Boys replied with tries from No 8 Calvin Masson and wing Jeff Williams in a second half that could quite easily have swung in their favour at the end of it all.

In the other games, Acer Durban Collegians looked impresive in their 52-24 victory over Airtron Harlequins while Jonsson Crusaders acccounted for Thanda Zululand Rhinos 27-10.

In the Basil Medway Under 20 'A' Knockout competition, College Rovers and Harlequins went through to the final after beating Durban Collegians and Old Boys respectivey in the two nail-bighting semifinals played last Saturday.

Rovers have now won all seven league trophies on offer and will be hoping for a clean sweep in the knockout competitions but will now be even more hard-pressed to do what only Collegians have done and that is winning every competition that they played in a season. Besides their Under 20 sides winning all their respective competitions, their second stringers have retained the Wylie Cup while their third side will have their name engraved on the Walker Cup once again after narrowly beating Old Boys 19-17 and so winning the Third Division league. Their ladies won the KZNRU Womens trophy for the eighth consecutive year as well.

The Captain Morgan Murray Cup Knockout competition draw takes place in the Trinity Bar at The Absa Stadium Durban on Monday 27 July at 6.30 pm.
