House of Paint College Rovers picked up another three trophies at the weekend when they completerd the Under 20 treble, wining the Basil Medway Knockout trophy, the Under 20 'B' DW Geddie Cup and Chris Edwards Under 20 'C' cup, which under the cicumstances was quite a remarkable achievement.
The club's depth was stretched to the limit going into the three finals but they managed to secure their three well earned victories with three gutsy performances. Their Under 20 'A' side beat Airtron Harlequins 31-17 after the 'Mighty Quins' had taken the early initiative. Rovers Under 20 'B' then accounted for their Harlequins counterparts 20-15 while their 'C' side edged out Amanzimtoti 23-18 in the other two closely-contested finals.
It was a good weekend for Rovers all round as they wrapped up their House of Paint Premier Division league in fine style beating Jonsson Crusaders 38-22 with their second stringers also finishing on a high beating the Durban North club 43-21. Their third side beat 'Saders' 17-16 to wrap up the Third Division competition, so retaining the Walker Cup.
In the other Premier Division games Acer Durban Collegians beat ChemSpec Jaguars 47-17, Maritzburg Varsity edged out Harlequins 15-12 to end their campaign on a high and Envirosan Old Boys eeked out a hard fought victory against Thanda Zululand Rhinos beating the side from Empangeni 34-29 at Mick Kelly Park.
The Captain Morgan Murray Cup knockout competition draw took place on Monday night and the 2008 championd and holders of the 119 year old trophy Zululan Rhinos have been drawn to face Crusaders in the quarter-finals at Ranleigh Crescent in Durban North with their second teams also set to do battle for the Peter Taylor Knockout Trophy.
In the other semi finals all set for Friday evening Rovers host Jaguars, Collegians are at home to Quins and Oldies host Maritzburg Varsity and one would lean to Collegians as the possible winners of the 119 year old competition.
