Preseason Club Activity
The KwaZulu Natal Rugby Union’s youngest First Division club, The Ballito Dolphins Rugby Club, have secured the services of a number Sharks Rugby legends as they get ready to prepare for the 2010 season. The North Coast club, which has secured a lucrative sponsorship deal with Teichmann Civils and Bell Equipment for the 2010 club season have plans in place to find their way into the Premier Division and with the likes of the former Natal captain who led the province to Currie Cup glory for the first time in 100 year history in 1990 Craig Jamieson, Adrian Garvey, AJ Venter, John ‘Slugger’ Slade and Conan Sharman on board we can expect nothing but the best for the young club.
Another First Division club Hillcrest are also looking to improve their status and after an incredibly disruptive 2009 season after the uncertainty on the availability of their home grounds, are now securely based at The Shongweni Polo Club and with new lights in place sponsored by Cato Ridge Electrical head coach Jonno Brayley is very buoyant about the future. Certainly if this young club founded under a lamp post on the corner of Hospital Road and Old Main Road in the village of Hillcrest in 1969 can survive what they had to go through in the last few seasons then they can only grow in strength going forward.
Gavin Pollock will continue in the hot seat as Chairman of the club and he too sees a bright future for the Villagers who now have a wonderful new home with an incredible setting.
On the Premier Division front Thanda Zululand Rhinos started their practice sessions on Tuesday 5 January and will be practicing every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 6pm at Mick Kelly Park in Empangeni
The Crusaders Rugby Club has recently concluded a sponsorship deal with mechanical construction and maintenance engineering company Goss and Balfe. Company director Paddy Goss who played lock for the club for a number of years is delighted to be able to put something back into his old club stating that it means a great deal to be able to support the game at grass roots level for the 30 year old family business.
The club has already started pre-season training and are looking forward to a far more positive season this year and with newly appointed chairman Malcolm Kennedy now in harness things are certainly looking up for the Durban North rugby club.
The 2009 Premier Division and Under 20 champions College Rovers start training on 12 January at 6pm sharp.
