COACH EDUCATION PROCESS
1. Any person wanting to coach in South Africa, MUST become Boksmart Accredited! Should they not have this accreditation, they will NOT be allowed to coach anywhere until such accreditation has been completed. Please contact Archie Sehlako for further information on firstname.lastname@example.org and to book your place.
2. The next step is to complete the 2-day (in some instances 1 full day) World Rugby Level 1 course. Cost is R300 per coach.
This course carries an Attendance Certificate only, but is compulsory to complete before attempting the Level 2 course. You may do either the Boksmart or Level 1 first.
Please contact Carol Reynolds on email@example.com to book and confirm your attendance.
3. We also offer a Sevens Level 1 coaching course to anyone wishing to move in that direction. The course is held over 2 evenings and cost is R300 per person.
4. The final phase of the coach education run in KZN, is to complete the World Rugby Level 2 course. Cost is R500 per coach. This course is run over 4-evenings and equips one to coach at a higher level. Please contact Carol Reynolds on firstname.lastname@example.org to book and confirm your attendance. All coaches are expected
to complete a 6 match week coaching diary after the course and will undergo a practical assessment to complete his/her Level 2 process. They MUST contact Carol
Reynolds with 3 dates for the assessment to be completed.
5. Please note the age limit for coaching courses has been set by World Rugby at 18 for a Level 1.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
Boksmart Each coach will be issued with a Boksmart card with his number on it. As there is a backlog with the issuing of these cards, please note that you can use your ID. Number to confirm you are Boksmart accredited should a referee official request your card.
For a player to be signed off to play outside of his age group, the ruling is that ONLY a coach who has a World Rugby (IRB) Level 2 accreditation can sign him/her off. The coach MUST be in possesion of his Level 2 certificate for this process to be approved by Archie Sehlako.
The coach must also be in possession of a VALID BOKSMART accreditation. Coaches should contact Archie Sehlako to track their Boksmart card.
World Rugby Courses Certification will be issued to each coach via link from World Rugby within 6 months of completion of the course.
We request that coaches be patient with the issuing of certificates as World Rugby cater for coaches all over the world and therefore there are sometimes delays in the process. REMEMBER: This is an International accreditation.
We strongly advised all coaches to register online with a private email address as if you move from one school/club to another, your email address will change and this will create further delays in your receiving certificates and updated information from World Rugby.
Coaches can also check on www.passport.worldrugby.org/certificates for their certificates.
RPL (RECOGNISED PRIOR LEARNING) COST R500 PER PERSON The RPL is merely a shorter version of the Level 2 (1 day instead of 4) but you still get the Level 2 qualification provided that you meet all the following requirements:
1. Ex-professional/provincial player that has coaching experience OR
2. Should have been coaching for MORE than 10 years OR
3. Should be in possession of a KZNRU/SARU Level 2/3 coaching certificate AND
4. MUST be actively coaching.
All coaches attending the World Rugby Level 3 must be in possession of a World Rugby Level 2 accreditation and appropriate experience (this is a directive from World Rugby/SARU) however, for appropriately qualified and experienced coaches this can be achieved through a short workshop Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) and will include 4 online tests i.e. Level 2 Rugby Ready, Laws, First Aid and Concussion Management. Contact Quentin Reynolds on email@example.com with your Coaching CV.
By April 2016 ALL coaches in South Africa MUST have a valid Coaching Licence World Rugby Qualification or they will not be allowed to
coach (as per Boksmart Ruling). This is in the final stages of being legislated by government. Total compliance by all parties concerned is expected.
We were hoping to roll out Strength and Conditioning Courses for Coaches and Fitness Trainers in 2017. There is, however, a problem with the course material. Once this has been resolved, we will advertise dates as to when we will conduct these.
SARU have also introduced an Administrators Course. This course carries an NQF Level 5 qualification. Please contact Carol or Donald (firstname.lastname@example.org) for further information.
Workshops on various topics, e.g. Lineout, Scrum, Breakdown Management, Defence, Attack, etc. will also be conducted over the year.
Confirmation of these, dates and costs will be advertised in 2017 as well.
For further information on any of the above courses, please feel free to contact Carol Reynolds on email@example.com
World Rugby have introduced a Beginners Course as well. This is for anyone who has an interest in rugby coaching but has no knowledge of the game.
Please feel free to contact Carol Reynolds on firstname.lastname@example.org should you be interested in enlisting for any of the above courses.
