RULES

RULES OF THE SOUTHERN KZN LEAGUE

1. MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM PLAYERS
A team should arrive with at least 15 players ready to take the field. At least two must be props and at least one other should be identified as a prop in case of injury. We also need at least two players who can play hooker. In this league (to allow maximum participation) we will allow 22 players per team.
Should any team arrive, however, with less than fifteen players but provided there are at least twelve players, the match may commence subject to the provision of props as described above.
PLAYERS NOT AVAILABLE FOR SOUTHERN KZN TEAMS (without doctor’s notes describing injuries) will NOT be allowed to play in the semi – finals and finals of either the Presidents Cup or the Bert Woolley Trophy. No exceptions will be made!

2. LOG POINTS FORMAT
The following log points will be awarded in our league:
Win : 4 points
Draw : 2 points
Loss : 1 point if score 7 or less than winning team
Loss : 0 points if loss greater than 7 points
Try Bonus : 1 point if 4 or more tries is scored by either team

3. FINALISATION OF THE LEAGUE
Each team should have now played 8 games. The log points earned as per above will be tallied. The team ending top in the south section will play against the team ending fourth in the north. The team ending second in the south will play against the team ending third in the north, and the same goes for teams ending first and second in the north, they will play the teams ending fourth and third from the south respectively. These games will all be played on a knock out basis and will take place at the venue of the team who where better placed on the log. The points you gain in the quarter finals will be added to your log points and this will assist in determining where the semi finals will be played. The four teams who win their quarter final matches will play their semi final fixtures based on all the points they have earned in both the round robin and quarter final matches. These games will be played on a 1v4 and 2v3 basis, at the venues of teams ending 1 and 2 respectively. The points you get in the semi finals will be added to your log points to determine where the final is played. The winners of the semi finals will play for the Presidents cup and the two losing teams will contest the Bert Wooley trophy. These games will be played at the venue of the top ranked team playing for the Presidents cup, unless it makes suitable sense to play the two finals at different venues, this will be at the executive’s discretion. In the case of equal log points this will be determined firstly by point’s difference, then the amount of tries scored by each team. In the unlikely event of a further tie – we will revert to the spinning of a coin.

4. SCRATCHING AND NON-ARRIVALS
Any team unable to field a team for a fixture must notify the opponents by 10h00 on the business day prior to the fixture. A fine of R 500.00 for the first, R 1000 for the second and R 1500 for the third scratching shall be levied against a club. Any club who does not pay such fine within 30 days when called on by the treasurer, will be fined an extra R 500, the total will be subtracted from the Grant paid by the KZNRU. Further to the fine – log points will be subtracted from the team as follows:
1st Scratching – no points, 2nd Scratching 2 log points, 3rd Scratching 5 log points and disqualification from the league.
NON-ARRIVALS WILL BE SEEN IN A VERY SERIOUS LIGHT and means, not scratching by 10h00 on the business day preceding the match and not arriving in time for the referee to start the game. Any Non-arrival will attract an immediate fine of R 2000. Such fine shall be paid to the Sub-union who will pay the fine over to the hosting club to compensate for expenses and lost revenue. Any referee can abandon a game if a team has not arrived within 30 min of the official kick-off. This will be regarded as a non-arrival.
In all of the above cases the opposing team shall earn 5 log points.

5. SCORES AND TRIES SCORED:
The referee will advise the secretary of the referees of the final score as well as the tries scored by each team. This will be sent(sms or e-mail) to the Senior Vice President of the Sub-Union by not later than 17h00 on the first working day after the match. In addition, the home chairperson must e-mail or sms the scores to the Senior Vice President of the Sub-Union by no later than 17h00 on the first working day after the match. (THIS WAS A PROBLEM LAST SEASON)
