College Rovers hammered Crusaders 59-3 in a one sided Moor cup match on Friday night. With the likes of Ryan Kankowski, Bismarck and Jannie du Plessis and former springbok assistant coach Dick Muir watching from the stands, Rovers produced an emphatic display to run in ten tries without reply to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

FNB UKZN Maritzburg had the privilege of hosting Ricoh Maritzburg Collegians in the opener for the season and celebrated the evening with a hard fought 17-3 win in a tense derby night at the Peter Booysen Park in the capital.

Each of the 8 Premier Division Clubs are to be given an opportunity in 2012 to host what the KZNRU and Fidelity Security are calling a Feature Moor Cup match day, the aim of which is to especially promote a particular Club Rugby game and encourage the host Club to create a 'Club Supporters Day' by inviting ex-players, family, sponsors and other interested parties to this special event (a day of fanfare involving Lucky draws, Castle Corner, Jumping Castles, PA with music etc).

Acer Durban Collegians had a tough time of it in beating Bluff SuperSpar Harlequins 14-10 in the second round of the Fidelity Security Premier Division. Even with home ground advantage, they made heavy weather of their nail-biting victory. But in their defence, they did have a lot of injury problems that didn’t really help matters.

The 2012 club rugby season kicks off this week end when Bluff SuperSpar Harlequins host the eighth anniversary of the Ronnie van Rooyen Club Rugby tournament out on the Bluff. Oom Ronnie, who passed away in December 2003, was one of club rugby’s most passionate administrators and by many of his club members considered the mightiest Quinn of them all.

Potchefstroom University, affectionately known as the Pukke, will be taking part in the annual Ronnie van Rooyen Memorial Rugby Festival at Harlequins out on the Bluff on 23/24 March. Affectionately known as Oom Ronnie, Van Rooyen passed away in December of 2003, and in 2004, the first Ronnie van Rooyen game was played.
