Fidelity Security Moor Cup Season gets underway

The Fidelity Security Moor Cup season got off to a fine start on Saturday afternoon with all eight Premier Divsion clubs in action at the Growthpoint KINGS PARK outer fields. The festival of rugby kicked off with two entertaining games: the league's newcomers Amanzimtoti comfortably defeated FNB Ukzn Impi 40-7, claiming a bonus point in the process.

This Saturday sees a spectacular launch to the new Fidelity Security Moor Cup season at the Kings Park Outer Fields. All eight Premier Division teams will be in action in what promises to be a feast of rugby for the spectators.

Mini Rugby Back at Rovers

In 1974 it was the late Dr Kevin ‘Laser’ Taylor who first introduced Mini Rugby to KZN out of the then Berea Rovers Rugby Club and soon the game started to thrive and grow amongst the other clubs at this level.

The FNB UKZN Impi rugby side's chances of playing in the Varsity Cup faded away into the late afternoon Potchefstroom air after they were comprehensively beaten 42-8 by the University of Johannesburg in a promotion relegation match on Monday afternoon after only trailing 13-8 at the break.

The positive news was seeing former Springbok and Sharks captain Wahl Bartmann, now the CEO of Fidelity Security, handing over a handsome cheque to CEO of the Sharks Steve Saad at Growthpoint KINGS PARK at Saturday’s Super Rugby match between the Cell C Sharks and Waratahs.

Their bonus point victory over the Bloemfontein side gives them their first opportunity of qualifying for the promotion relegation stakes with John Mitchell’s charges having to face CUT once again next Monday but this time in the Free State capital.

The Ronnie van Rooyen Memorial Tournament continues on Friday night at Harlequins RFC. Fixtures are Jaguars 1st vs Pmb UKZN 2nd (6pm), Dbn Collegians 1st vs Pmb UKZN 1st (7.10pm) and Harlequins 1st vs Dbn Collegians 2nd at 8.20, all on the A Field.
On the B Field, Harlequins 3rd play Queensburgh 1st at 6pm.

SA Home Loans Durban Collegians got their 2014 season off on a positive note beating their hosts Nashua Crusaders 33-14 in the second Flya Club Rugby Tournament in Durban North last Friday evening. Collegians looked a lot more structured on the night and look destined for a good season.

Flya Club Rugby Competition

The draw for the second Flya Club Rugby Competition took place at Crusaders on Wednesday evening. The opening round takes place tonight (Friday evening) with hosts Nashua Crusaders taking on the winners of the inaugural competition last year SA Home Loans Durban Collegians in the main game at 8pm with Jonsson College Rovers up against Varsity College in the early game at 6pm.

Leading 39-0 at the break the 2013 Community Cup runners up made their intentions quite clear running in 13 tries.
